Author Event: Debra Magpie Earling

A launch party for Debra Magpie Earling's novel, The Lost Journals of Sacajewea will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, May 19 at the Missoula Art Museum.
Meet the author! Live music by Dylan Running Crane and Joseph Running Crane, hors d'oeuvres, and bar.

The Lost Journals of Sacajewea began as a long poem @Debra Earling wrote when MAM collaborated with Indigenous artists to respond to the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commemoration with a limited edition print project and traveling exhibition curated by Corwin Clairmont: Native Perspectives on the Trail: A Contemporary American Indian Art Portfolio.

Milkweed Editions writes:

"In this visionary novel, acclaimed Indigenous author Debra Magpie Earling vividly brings this highly memorialized and mythologized figure to life. As a reader, you’ll inhabit Sacajewea’s perspective and follow her coming-of-age story growing up among the Lemhi Shosone, being forced to join Lewis and Clark’s Corp of Discovery, and traverse a brutal terrain with men who want to conquer the world she loves. Written in lyrical, dreamlike prose, THE LOST JOURNALS OF SACAJEWEA is an astonishing work of art and a powerful tale of perseverance—the Indigenous woman‘s story that hasn‘t been told."
Fact and Fiction will be present selling copies of The Lost Journals of Sacajewea and Perma Red.
