David Sedaris at Fact & Fiction!

Reading & Signing

Saturday, June 23rd

7:00 pm

Doors open at 6:00pm

ON MAY 29TH AT 10:00am

David Sedaris will be celebrating his new book, Calypso, with Missoula fans at Fact & Fiction on Saturday, June 23rd, at 7:00 PM.

David will do a reading and talk followed by a signing, and he will sign for everyone who shows up. The event will be ticketed and, due to fire codes, only 75 will be available for inside seating during the reading. After the initial 75 tickets are sold, Fact & Fiction will provide priority signing line tickets that will accompany the purchase of a copy of Calypso. These ticket holders will get priority status in the signing line over those who have not. Everyone who waits through the signing line will have the opportunity to speak to David, whether they have purchased a copy of the new book or not.

Fact & Fiction will be closed from 3:30 PM to 6 PM on the day of the event to set up the store. Doors will open at 6 PM for reading ticket holders. Seating will be available on a first come, first served basis. Following the reading, those in attendance will have the opportunity to get their book signed and speak with David. We will then open the signing to priority signing line ticket holders. Finally, non-ticket holders will be allowed in. David will stay at the store as late as needed to greet all who wish to speak to him.

Tickets will go on sale, along with the book, on Tuesday, May 29th at 10am. Tickets will be sold IN STORE ONLY. NO PHONE CALLS, please. The price of a ticket is the same as the cover price for a hardcover copy of the book, $28.00, and includes a copy of the book.

There is a Limit of two reading or signing line tickets per person.

Video and photos are prohibited at this event.

About Calypso:

David Sedaris returns with his most deeply personal and darkly hilarious book.

If you’ve ever laughed your way through David Sedaris’s cheerfully misanthropic stories, you might think you know what you’re getting with Calypso. You’d be wrong.

When he buys a beach house on the Carolina coast, Sedaris envisions long, relaxing vacations spent playing board games and lounging in the sun with those he loves most. And life at the Sea Section, as he names the vacation home, is exactly as idyllic as he imagined, except for one tiny, vexing realization: it’s impossible to take a vacation from yourself.

With Calypso, Sedaris sets his formidable powers of observation toward middle age and mortality. Make no mistake: these stories are very, very funny-it’s a book that can make you laugh ’til you snort, the way only family can. Sedaris’s powers of observation have never been sharper, and his ability to shock readers into laughter unparalleled. But much of the comedy here is born out of that vertiginous moment when your own body betrays you and you realize that the story of your life is made up of more past than future.

This is beach reading for people who detest beaches, required reading for those who loathe small talk and love a good tumor joke. Calypso is simultaneously Sedaris’s darkest and warmest book yet-and it just might be his very best.
